Honorable Mention: 2014 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis

Significance: Tied for most wins (5) at Indianapolis, Clinched Chase berth

Aside from perhaps his most recent race at Indianapolis in July of this past season and all of it’s retirement fanfare, the 2014 event just had a different feel to it.  Somehow, despite all of his accomplishments, he was due. You had to be there to realize this, and to feel the electricity in the air.

Jeff took the lead from pole-sitter Kevin Harvick on lap 2 and led 3 times for a total of 40 laps all day. His Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) teammate Kasey Kahne was also strong, leading 70 laps of his own that day.  In the end, Jeff pulled away on the final restart with about 20 laps to go. From that point on, not one person stood in his way, and the little kid who grew up in Pittsboro, IN tied F1 ace Michael Schumacher as the only driver to score 5 wins at the Brickyard.
