The Ultimate Show Of Disrespect

Entitled, disrespectful and absolutely disgusting.

Those are only a few of the words that can be used to describe the fans who decided to throw beer cans, bottles and other trash at Jeff Gordon after his win at Talladega Superspeedway in 2007. The win was the 77th win of his career, which put him one win ahead of Dale Earnhardt on the all-time win list.

The only reason this incident takes the top spot on the list is because of the disrespect that was not only shown to Jeff Gordon’s legacy, but Dale Earnhardt’s as well. Whether fans want to admit it or not, Dale Earnhardt would have been proud to have his position taken by Jeff Gordon, a man who transcended the sport and dominated it for several years since his debut in 1992.

The act of the fans that afternoon were not only dangerous to Gordon but also to everyone else at the track and it’s those kinds of fans that NASCAR or any other sport doesn’t need. If you were one of those fans on that day you should be ashamed of yourself and furthermore you should have been banned from ever attending another NASCAR event.
