Winner: Toyota

After capturing their first championship in 2015, Toyota returned to the sport of NASCAR with more momentum than ever before.

In 2015, Joe Gibbs Racing, made up of Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth, won more races than any other team and showed that they were a legitimate threat to steal the invisible title of “Best Team” from Hendrick Motorsports.

For 2016, they returned with help, as Furniture Row Racing made the switch to Toyota and formed an alliance with JGR, meaning that Martin Truex Jr., who made it to Homestead in 2015, would be a new friend.

They certainly did not disappoint in this year’s Daytona 500. First off, Hamlin made it to Victory while narrowly sliding past Truex Jr. Busch sat comfortably in third and Edwards finished fifth, after being involved in an early wreck and going a lap down. Kenseth finished 14th due to his risky move in the final turn of the race. He led 40 laps.

Overall, the Toyota cars proved that they are nothing to be messed with and showed why they are set to have success again in 2016.
