2015 – Aerokits Are King… Sort of

Ten years after the IndyCar Series made history by holding a race with both left and right turns; it made history again with the debut of engine manufacturer specific aero-kits for the cars. Chevrolet and Honda brought specially designed kits to the course and have since been refining them. The buzz before, during, and after the race was about the kits’ durability. There were concerns ahead of the event that portions of the kits were prone to breakage and there were not enough replacement parts available. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the case as the race was plagued by caution flags because of debris.

Team Penske dominated qualifying by taking the top four spots and then proceeded to destroy the competition. It turned out to be a battle between Will Power and Juan Pablo Montoya. Montoya took the lead after his pit crew managed to complete a stop faster than Power’s crew. Power managed to cut into Montoya’s lead and make one last ditch effort at a pass, but the two cars made contact and Power’s machine ended up with damage. Montoya went on to get his first win on a road course since 1999.
