Contender No. 1: Jimmie Johnson

Stats at Phoenix:

  • Wins: 4
  • Top-5’s: 15
  • Top-10’s: 19
  • Laps Led: 977

Jimmie Johnson is a contender at just about every track he visits. Phoenix is just another one on the list that he has been great at.

Out of his 25 starts at the track, Johnson has finished outside of the top-15 just two times and outside of the top-10 just six times. That has led to an average finish of 7.7 for the six-time champ. His four wins came from fall 2007 to fall 2009. Johnson won three in a row before finishing 4th and then winning another race.

He has been the best driver for Hendrick Motorsports so far this season and he’s already pushed himself up to the top of the Chase standings just three races into the season.

With a win at Atlanta already on his résumé for 2016, Johnson has his spot in the Chase secured. His next win would put him past Dale Earnhardt on the all-time wins list and we should see him do it sometime this season. It very well could be at Phoenix.
