Winner: Battling For The Lead

Dover provided us with some of the most intense lead battles we’ve seen all season long as it delivered in the closing moments of the afternoon with some late-race drama.

It started with Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson, as they engaged around the halfway point of the race. Later on it was Larson and Martin Truex Jr. and in the final few laps of the race, it was a mixture of Larson, Matt Kenseth and Chase Elliott all battling for the lead.

The one common trend throughout the day was clean air, as track position made a big impact on holding a lead. The second place driver, whether they went high or low would often get huge runs coming out of turns but just wouldn’t have enough, leading to a 10-20 lap battle before a new driver seized the lead.

This season, racing for the lead has been interesting at other short tracks, like Martinsville and Bristol, but it certainly did not live up to the standard that Dover set. Hopefully we see more exciting battles as the year progresses.
