NASCAR Checkered Countdown: Top-Five New Hampshire Finishes
No.3 The exact opposite, Stewart runs out of gas, Bowyer wins (2010).
These races were fine examples of how often races at New Hampshire turn into fuel mileage wins. The year before Stewart’s win at the same racetrack the exact opposite had happened: Bowyer had led the most laps but found himself in second place behind Stewart when the race was coming to an end. The Richard Childress Racing driver could not close the gap of more than a second between him and Stewart and it looked like the race would finish in that order.
Then Stewart slowed down while taking the white flag. He was out of fuel and finished 24th whereas Bowyer would make it to the checkered flag but not to victory lane: he had to be pushed there in order to give a start to the post race ceremonies.
Next: Hamlin and Gordon
