What are some of the best moments on YouTube from the Granite State? Check out these great pieces from NASCAR at New Hampshire.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway is one of the northernmost tracks on the NASCAR national touring circuit. The Xfinity Series has raced at the track since July 1990, and would be joined at the track by the Sprint Cup Series in 1993. Over the years, the track known as the Magic Mile would be home to a number of memorable races and events.
The track has been home to a number of first-time winners, including most recently Joey Logano and Robby Gordon. Unfortunately, the track also has some dark times in its history, including the deaths of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr. The track would become the smallest track in recent memory use a restrictor plate after these tragedies, leading to Jeff Burton leading all 300 laps in the September 2000 race.
Despite the bad times, the track remains a favorite summer destination for New England racing fans, who flock to the one-mile oval twice a year for Sprint Cup, Xfinity, and even modified series racing. One of the most popular regional touring series is the Whelen Modified Tour, who races in the Granite State as well.
NASCAR isn’t the only series to have raced at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as open wheel racing too has made stops at the track. The CART championship raced at NHMS from 1992 to 1995, along with the Indy Racing League from 1996 to 1998 and its successor the IndyCar Series in 2011.
