Winner: Making History

What a weekend it was for Kyle Busch!

Over the course of a few days, Busch managed to win the Lilly Diabetes 250 on Saturday after capturing the pole and leading 62 of 63 laps. Then on Sunday, he won the pole for the Brickyard 400 and led 149 of 170 laps to finish off his complete sweep–the first time a driver has ever won both poles and both races at Indy in just one weekend.

In the process, Busch broke the record for the most laps led in a single race at the track. Previously, the record was held by Jeff Gordon, who led 124 laps in 2004. Busch beat the record by 25 laps.

Busch now has two wins at the track and is just the second driver to win back-to-back Brickyard 400’s as Jimmie Johnson did it in 2008 and 2009. He is also tied with Tony Stewart and Dale Jarrett for the third-most victories at the track, trailing only Johnson (4) and Gordon (5).
