After Kyle Busch’s dominating victory at the Brickyard last sunday, we take a look at the best racing ever occurred at the “Tricky Triangle” in the Pocono mountains.
The Pocono Raceway opened its doors for the first time in 1971. The peculiar shape of this 2.5-mile superspeedway is given by the different radius of the three turns that make up the track. The idea was in fact to put together three different corners of three different ovals: turn one was copied from Trenton Speedway, turn two has the same design of turn one of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, while turn three has a similar look to the Milwaukee Mile. The three corners also have different banking which makes this track even more challenging, so much that it is often referred to as a “roval”. Jeff Gordon is the NASCAR driver with the most wins here.
