NASCAR: Live Pocono Weather Updates For Monday’s Race

NASCAR’s race on Sunday in Pocono is now a NASCAR race on Monday in Pocono thanks to the rain. While the day has changed, the rain is still a concern as it has been in the area this morning at the track.

UPDATE: NASCAR has postponed the race until 11:00 AM ET on Monday. New Monday updates can be seen below.

When it comes to Pocono on Sunday there is good news and there is bad news. The good news is that the weather forecast this weekend isn’t as bad as it was when NASCAR was here back in June. The bad news is that it is not slightly better and the odds of the race running in its entirety don’t seem to be very good as of Sunday morning.

Below is a look at the current weather situation at Pocono. This will be updated throughout the day and the race (once it gets going). The expectation for the day appears to be that the race will get started, after that everything seems to be up in the air. Be sure to check back throughout the day for new weather updates or keep this browser open and simply refresh the page.

Pocono Weather Updates

The forecast today at Pocono (via The Weather Channel) calls for a high of 85 degrees with an 80 percent chance of rain. Early rain is expected with a lull between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. At 2:00 there is a 30 percent chance of rain, at 3:00 it jumps to 50 percent and by 4:00 it’s at 75 percent. This of course can all change from hour-to-hour so be sure to check back for the most recent updates.

Monday Updates

Rain is in the forecast on Monday in Pocono and the window early in the day is going to be hampered by lingering moisture in the air. The big threat of rain comes into the picture around 2:00 PM ET when there is a 40 percent chance of rain. That jumps to a 60 percent chance at 3:00 PM and remains around 60 percent for the rest of the day. If Monday doesn’t work, they will have to run on Tuesday.

11:55 AM ET – Green Flag is scheduled for 12:07 PM ET. Check back here if weather becomes an issue during the race. Otherwise enjoy the race!

11:47 AM ET – Green Flag should come shortly after 12:00 PM ET today. Kurt Busch and Aric Almirola will be starting in the back of the pack today (FYI).

11:39 AM ET – Invocation will be at 11:50 AM ET.

11:35 AM ET – Crew Chiefs are heading to pit road. Pocono Twitter account says 12:30 start time but it would seem they could have the engines fired right around noon if they wanted to and have this thing underway around 12:15 if track is in good shape.

11:28 AM ET – Drivers being told to be to their cars around 11:50 AM ET. It would seem that we are getting close.

11:15 AM ET – Cars are being pushed to pit road.

11:00 AM ET – Track is getting closer according to race control, cars still in the garage.

10:45 AM ET – While no announcement has been made, cars are still in the garage which means this race is not starting at 11:07 AM ET. In about 22 minutes we will officially be in another rain delay.

10:30 AM ET – Track drying … continues.

10:15 AM ET – Well, somebody is optimistic aren’t they?

10:10 AM ET – Not the best news ….

9:53 AM ET – NASCAR trying to dry pit road now. It would seem plausible that the cars will be put on the grid once pit road is dry. Mist has let up for the most part at the track. No word if 11:07 AM start time is still a thing, it would seem unlikely but nothing is official yet.

9:45 AM ET – NASCAR has delayed moving cars to the grid, track drying continues.

9:40 AM ET – Cars are being revved in the garage area, could move onto the grid shortly. NASCAR expected to make a decision at 9:45 AM.

9:20 AM ET – Cars are still in the garage. Once track is ready they can be rolled right to pit road. It’s still misting at the track, no word on the condition of the track right now. It looks decent but the mist is still an issue.

9:00 AM ET – The mist continues at Pocono, at this rate the 11:07 AM green flag time could be in trouble. The mist is not helping the drying efforts nor is it helping eliminate the weepers. The heavy rains appear to be coming in around 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM. This might be a long Monday.

8:45 AM ET – It’s misting at the track right now, borderline a light rain one might say.

8:30 AM ET – ESPN’s Bob Pockrass confirms the backup plan for today …

8:00 AM ET – Fog and mist at the track now.

7:50 AM ET – The morning forecast looks more questionable than originally thought, no major issues as of yet though.

7:30 AM ET – Rain is in the area near the track at the moment.

7:00 AM ET – NASCAR is going to run today in Pocono with a pre-race at 10:30 AM ET and the green flag shortly after 11:00 AM ET. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Sunday Updates

2:45 PM ET – NASCAR HAS POSTPONED THE RACE UNTIL 11:00 AM MONDAY

2:42 PM ET – Rain is slowing and the sun is coming back out. This seems to be the pattern here today. Since the track was lost with that shower, best-case scenario puts the start of the race a couple hours away.

2:40 PM ET – Track does not have lights for those asking or thinking that it does. It will be too dark to race around 8:30 PM ET tonight. At this point the rain would need to stop and there would have to be clear skies and sun the rest of the day for this race to get accomplished today. Prospects aren’t looking great right now.

2:35 PM ET – Track officials have confirmed that they have lost the track. So the process will now start over.

2:30 PM ET – Track was almost ready and then the rains came again …

2:25 PM ET – Reports of drops falling in the garage area, there is a large cloud over the track at the moment. If the skies open up right now, it’s going to dampen the spirits of those who were optimistic about racing today. Track is pretty much dry sans the weepers in Turn One.

2:15 PM ET – NASCAR still hopes for the track to be dry in about 15 minutes. There is rain in the area but it’s holding off for now. No word on start time at the moment.

1:55 PM ET – Rain drops are being reported in Turn 3.

1:30 PM ET – NASCAR hopes to have the track dry by 2:30 PM ET. Cars, driver and spotters are still in the garage area at the moment. Rain is in the area, hoping it stays away.

1:15 PM ET – Things seem to be going well, hopefully we will be racing soon.

12:45 PM ET – Track drying continues at Pocono, the track appears to be drying nicely. The green flag is about an hour away now. The next batch of rain is also about 90 minutes or so away depending on whether or not the cell breaks up before it reaches the track. The race might be to 200 miles today and not 400.

12:30 PM ET – The sun is trying to come out over Pocono Raceway. Scheduled green flag time is just over an hour away as they continue to dry the track, fingers crossed the rain holds off.

12:15 PM ET – Looking decent right now, not great but decent …

11:45 AM ET – Blue skies at Pocono right now, no rain in sight. However rain is expected to return around 1:00 PM ET.

11:15 AM ET – The rain is starting to clear around the track.

10:45 AM ET – Let’s not make history today …

10:30 AM ET – For those tweeting us at @Beyond_The_Flag and asking about Monday, yes it does look better on Monday. However rain is expected in the afternoon Monday so if the race is moved to Monday it would benefit NASCAR to have an early start time.

10:15 AM ET – The cell over the track now is not moving all that quickly which will hinder getting the track drying underway.

9:55 AM ET – The mist/drizzle has turned into a steady rain at Pocono.

9:40 AM ET – Air Titans currently parked as it’s raining at the track. Some in attendance are losing faith …

9:30 AM ET – Another issue with all of the rain in the area is going to be the moisture around the track even when it’s not actually supposed to be raining at the track.

9:15 AM ET – Aaron Studwell (NASCAR Meteorologist) is not overly confident that we will make it to halfway today in Pocono. If this turns into a race to halfway we might get an unexpected winner today which could impact the Chase in a big way.

9:00 AM ET – Rain is fading at the track as it’s just drizzling now.

8:30 AM ET – There is a light rain at the track right now with the sun trying to break through the clouds. This rain is expected to end soon a give way to what should be the biggest break in the weather for the day.
