Loser: Chase Elliott

There was a time during the season when it looked like Chase Elliott was destined to win a race sooner rather than later.

He was a heavy contender at tracks like Talladega, Dover and Michigan and led 51 laps in his first visit to Pocono. However, since then, Elliott has been having some major issues. His second-place finish at Michigan on June 12 is the last time he has finished in the top-10.

Since then, he’s finished 21st at Sonoma, 32nd at Daytona, 31st at Kentucky, 34th at Loudon, 15th at Indy and most recently, 33rd at Pocono. He was hit with more misfortunate after making contact with Joey Logano and spinning in Monday’s race.

At one point, Elliott was over 100 points above the cut line, but with a flurry of wrecks, he is now just 25 points ahead of 16th-place Kyle Larson and 45 points ahead of teammate Kasey Kahne, who is the first driver below the cut line.

Elliott will have to try to avoid trouble and end the day with a solid finish next weekend at Watkins Glen before things start to get interesting for him and the No. 24 team.
