Contender No. 1: Carl Edwards

Stats at Michigan:

  • Wins: 2
  • Top-5’s: 9
  • Top-10’s: 17
  • Laps Led: 337

It’s no surprise that Carl Edwards is a contender this weekend. He’s having a very consistent season with two wins and 14 top-10 finishes.

Edwards’ biggest accomplishments at Michigan are obviously his two wins there (2007, 2008), but his average finish of 9.5 proves just how solid he is at the track. Edwards has the highest average finish among active drivers except for Chase Elliott, who has a 2.0 due to just one race.

Edwards’ 17 top-10’s at Michigan is less than only Tony Stewart (21) and Matt Kenseth (20). In fact, Edwards has been so good at the track that he’s finished outside of 12th just four times in 24 starts.

Serving as one of the members of Joe Gibbs Racing, Edwards is continuing to bring his career back to the way it used to be. His seven top-5’s this year equals the amount he had in each of the past two seasons and he’s been seen near the front of the pack more often.

There’s no doubt Carl Edwards will be back in the mix again this weekend.
