Loser: Chase Elliott’s Restart

Chase Elliott nearly won last weekend at Chicagoland and had a great run at New Hampshire on Sunday.

The rookie raced within the top-5 for the majority of the day and looked like he would be in contention for the win again this weekend, but a late caution spoiled his day.

The final caution of the race led to Elliott restarting from the fifth position. However, once the race went green again, he had a tough time getting started. Elliott held up his line and eventually got passed by eight cars before settling in at 13th, where he would go on to finish the race at.

Because of that, he dropped from sixth to ninth in the driver standings and will need to have a solid race next weekend. 16 points is a comfortable gap, but he’ll have to hope he avoids any mechanical issues or any of the chaos that comes with short track racing at Dover.

Even with a late mistake on the restart, Elliott has shown his strength in the Chase and seems set to have a deep run in his first postseason stretch as a full-time Cup Series driver.
