Chili Bowl

For fans of midget car racing, there is no bigger event each winter than the Chili Bowl. Nicknamed the “Super Bowl of midget racing”, this event draws in drivers from all walks of life, from local tracks to the big stars of NASCAR and IndyCar.

Beginning in 1987, the Chili Bowl has run at the Tulsa Expo Center each year with more and more cars coming each year. The 2017 edition is set to break a record with 358 entries already, and still time for more. Names on the entry list include some of the best in racing, including Rico Abreu, Kyle Larson, Justin Allgaier, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. These names join the long list of storied competitors and winners at the Chili Bowl, including Abreu, Tony Stewart, and Bryan Clauson.

Perhaps what sets apart the Chili Bowl from other winter racing events is the week long competition. With many main events that lead up to the ultimate A-Main race, it takes multiple exciting races to pare down over 350 entrants to one overall winner. This year, the field will have to try and combat back-to-back winner Rico Abreu if they want to go down in history as the winner of the biggest Chili Bowl ever.

Be sure to tune in for the 2017 Chili Bowl Nationals this January on MAVTV.
