IndyCar: Four Drivers That Will Surprise You In 2017
By Dominic Lee
Sebastien Bourdais
Bourdais will move back to Dale Coyne Racing in 2017, a team e drove for in 2011 when he first entered IndyCar. Bourdais also brings along his engineer Craig Hampson.
During their time together, Hampson and Bourdais won 31 races, 31 poles and championships from 2004-2007. Olivier Boisson, who was Bourdais engineer’s at KVSH Racing the last few seasons will also join the duo. Boisson and Boudais won 3 races over the last two seasons together.
Bourdais is extremely excited about the opportunity he’s getting stating,
"“Obviously the key was to be able to reinforce the engineering department which was already in place. They had some really good results this year with Conor [Daly] as a rookie. That was one thing. “But for me to be able to continue with Olivier [Boisson], my engineer from KVSH, and to bring a guy of the caliber of Craig in the system, was definitely the key. Super-exciting factor, to try to be confident that we could be really competitive and build a strong organization, engineering-driven. “Dale’s commitment is a testament to what he wants to achieve. I couldn’t be any happier, thanks to his efforts and all the personal investment and all that, that we could be able to do that. I’m really, really excited about it.”"
Bourdais will be looking to raise Coyne’s subpar performance from the past seasons. They’re going to be good at the street and road course’s with Coyne’s expertise and Bourdai skill as a driver, but they most likely will not be competing with the Ganassi’s, Andretti’s and Penske’s of the sport.
