2017 My Bariatric Solutions 300 Race Results – Jones Wins
By Alex Herbst
A repaved surface at Texas Motor Speedway challenged many drivers in the Xfinity Series, but Erik Jones pulled through to victory on Saturday afternoon.
The first race to test the new repaved surface of Texas Motor Speedway was the junior division of NASCAR, the Xfinity Series. These seasoned veterans and rising youngsters would have their hands full all day, battling both each other and the track. In the end, it was a former Xfinity regular in Erik Jones that went to victory lane on Saturday afternoon.
For a while in the 300-mile race, it appeared that season veteran Joey Logano was the man to beat. He had earned four wins in the #12 Ford he was driving in the last two years, but he had not won either of the opening stages of the race. In the end, the Team Penske car would not finish the race, losing a cylinder late in the going.
As the race wound down, it would be a battle between Joe Gibbs Racing and the remaining Team Penske challenger. Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney were running first and second, and that is exactly how they would finish. Kevin Harvick would come home in third for Stewart-Haas Racing.
Not all the competitors were so fortunate to finish the race. Both Chip Ganassi Racing machines of Tyler Reddick and Brennan Poole would get caught up in a wreck, while Daniel Suarez and Daniel Hemric ran into issues while they were each running in the top five.
