2017 ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Results – A Larson Surprise
By Alex Herbst
Late drama at the action track led Kyle Larson to victory in the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond for the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
The young guns of the NASCAR Xfinity Series charged into the commonwealth of Virginia for more short track racing, after a rumble in the bullring last weekend at Bristol. They took on the action track of Richmond International Raceway on Saturday afternoon, and RIR lived up to its name. Kyle Larson would pull into victory lane after some late-race drama.
Justin Allgaier dominated the ToyotaCare 250, leading the most laps and winning the second stage of the event. But as the race wound into its final laps, Elliott Sadler and Ty Dillon were hot on his tail. A series of late cautions would help Ty Dillon pull a strategy move to take the lead on a series of pit stops. However, he would lose it on the next restart after jumping the start.
Kyle Larson, quietly running in the top ten throughout the day, crept into the picture in the final laps. He would take the lead after Ty Dillon’s penalty and did not look back. A final caution during NASCAR overtime for a spin by Ryan Reed would end the race, with the Cup Series points leader heading to a Xfinity Series victory.
Richmond also served as the third of four Dash4Cash races for Xfinity Series regulars. Justin Allgaier took his second $100,000 check by finishing second on the day, the best of the regular competitors.
