May is perhaps the biggest month in motorsports. What do we have on our plate racing-wise during the fifth month of 2017?

NASCAR

From a NASCAR perspective, we start off with the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, May 7th. From there, we head to Kansas Speedway for the Go Bowling 400 on Saturday, May 13th.

After that, the series has its so-called “All-Star Break”. The Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star race takes place on Saturday, May 20th. Eight days later on Sunday, May 28th, the series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the longest race of the year, the Coca-Cola 600. That wraps up the busy month of May for the NASCAR world.

IndyCar

In the IndyCar world, May is the biggest month of the year, and there is no close month in 2nd place. The series heads to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana and goes nowhere else to compete throughout the month.

The month begins with the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, a race held on the interior road course of the speedway. This will take place on Saturday, May 13th. Two days later, practice for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 begins. Qualifying takes place the following weekend before Carb Day occurs on Friday, May 26th.

Two days later on Sunday, May 28th, the field of 33 (likely) will take the green flag and race 200 laps around the speedway, where double championship points will be paid out. Once the checkered flag is waved, the busy month of May for IndyCar is in the books.

Formula One

Finally, Formula One also has a big month ahead. It kicks off with the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, May 14th. Two weeks later, the series heads to its most famous circuit for the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, May 28th.

In case you somehow missed it, which you probably did not, two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso will not be racing in the Monaco Grand Prix this year. He will instead be driving in his first Indy 500 for Andretti Autosport.
