For the second time this season, new championship points leader Kyle Larson emerged as the victor in a NASCAR Cup Series race. Both wins have come on 2-mile ovals.
Larson held off Chase Elliott to win the FireKeepers Casino 400 at the 2-mile Michigan International Speedway oval in Brooklyn, Michigan. His other win this season came at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, also a 2-mile oval.
Of Larson’s three career wins, two have now come at Michigan, giving him wins on 2-mile ovals only. However, despite not having yet won on a non-2-mile oval in his NASCAR Cup Series career, Larson is the new leader of the championship standings following his victory in the 15th race of the 2017 season.
