2017 Firecracker 250 at Daytona Results – William Byron Wins 2nd Race
By Alex Herbst
Rain, lightning, big wrecks, fuel mileage, and an overtime finish…the Xfinity Series race at Daytona had it all! So who won the Firecracker 250?
If you’re a NASCAR fan, Daytona is must-see TV. But when Mother Nature interferes with the race, a short drive around the superspeedway could become the 24 Hours of Daytona, Part 2. The Xfinity Series experienced that on Friday night and Saturday, being postponed after 11 laps as a night race, then turned into a day event. At the end of another long day on Saturday of stop-and-go racing, William Byron took the checkered flag for his second career win.
Byron, who won the previous week at Iowa Speedway, held off teammate Elliott Sadler in an overtime finish that saw the field just pass the overtime line as a big wreck occurred deep in the field. It was one of two big crashes that marred the finish of the Firecracker 250.

The day was one to forget for many of the Cup Series regulars in the field on Saturday. Joey Logano was the best finisher of the group in 7th, though many were caught up in wrecks. Daniel Suarez, Ty Dillon, Ryan Sieg and others were all collected in multi-car incidents.
Restrictor plate racing always brings out some surprises in the top 10, and the Firecracker 250 was no exception. JGL Racing earned their first double top 5 with Dakoda Armstrong in 3rd and Jeb Burton in 4th. B.J. McLeod Motorsports earned their first ever top 5 with David Starr in 5th. Joey Gase (8th) and B.J. McLeod (10th) also surprised with their high finishes.
