More from Beyond the Flag

Iowa Speedway is one of the most exciting short ovals on the stock car racing calendar, for both NASCAR and ARCA. The 7/8ths of a mile oval is the size of a short track but often drives like a superspeedway. On Saturday night, the ARCA Racing Series tackled the track, with Dalton Sargeant taking the checkered flag for Cunningham Motorsports.

Sargeant, who is in his first full-time season with the #77 team, held off Austin Theriault for victory following a let pit stop under yellow. Getting off the pit lane first gave Dalton Sargeant the preferred restart line, and he never looked back from there. Sheldon Creed, Michael Self and Kyle Weatherman rounded out the top 5.

Shane Lee, Sargeant’s teammate at Cunningham Motorsports, started on pole on Saturday night in Iowa, but faded progressively through the race to an 11th place finish. There were a total of five cautions on the night for 38 laps, with 20 cars running at the finish.
