More from NASCAR

Johnson, too, grew up on dirt, just a different type. Johnson drove in the offroad truck series before he ever strapped in behind the wheel on asphalt. He backed up those skills by winning the 2010 Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway.

The seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion has looked for more challenges off the racetrack through events such as IronMan. But a mid-week race would provide Johnson with a chance to showcase his skills while not sacrificing his drive for his eighth championship.

Who knows? Maybe Johnson running in the event and having some success would allow NASCAR fans to see him in a different light. Then again, if Johnson were to win the event, there could be a backlash from fans as he is obviously not one of the most popular drivers out there. Regardless, it would be cool to see him race in the event.
