#10 and #9

#10. [Last Race: 6th (-4)] — Chase Elliott had an engine issue that prevented him from being a contender at the Brickyard 400. He was not a frontrunner anyway, so maybe it’s a good thing for him that the engine failure happened this weekend. He is still without a win in his young Cup Series career, and there is now just one driver separating him from the playoff cut line from a points perspective. With just one top 10 finish over the course of the past four races, he really needs to step it up if he wants to secure a spot in the playoffs this season.. No. 24. Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet. CHASE ELLIOTT

#9. [Last Race: 8th (-1)] — Jimmie Johnson saw what could have ended up as a record fifth Brickyard 400 victory slip away when he tried to make a three-wide pass for the lead on the inside of turn 3 late in the race and crashed. While he did drop to 10th place in the championship standings thanks to the wreck, he only dropped to the #9 spot in these rankings. After all, he is still tied for the Cup Series lead with three wins so far this season, and wins matter more than anything in the playoffs, as the seven-time champion knows more than any other driver.. No. 48. Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet. JIMMIE JOHNSON
