Bristol, 2013

After winning at New Hampshire in the 2012 season, Kasey Kahne experienced what was his longest win drought as the driver of the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet at the time. However, that 20-race win drought ended when Kahne won yet another race without leading the most laps, this time at the first Bristol race of the 2013 season after he started in 2nd place, just like he did at New Hampshire.

Unlike at Charlotte and New Hampshire, however, when Kahne was nowhere near the top lap leader, he did lead 109 of the race’s 500 laps at Bristol, a total that was 2nd to only Denny Hamlin’s total of 117. Hamlin finished the race in 23rd place two laps down.

Just like at Charlotte and New Hampshire, Kahne led much of the closing stages at Bristol, leading the final 40 laps of the race en route to his 15th career Cup Series victory and third as a Hendrick Motorsports driver.
