Jimmie Johnson, Hendrick Motorsports, No. 48 Chevrolet

Jimmie Johnson won the first race of the season at Bristol, and the seven-time champion will be looking to do it again this time around. Johnson desperately needs something to go his way, so this could be his weekend to finally break out of his slump.

This season, it’s been all or nothing for Johnson. He was the first driver to earn three victories, yet he hasn’t finished higher than 10th place in the 10 races since his most recent win at Dover. Yet he still trails only one driver (points leader Martin Truex Jr.) in the wins department.

With his current points total but with none of his three victories from earlier this season, Johnson would currently not be qualified for the playoffs, further adding evidence to the concept that this has been an all-or-nothing type of season for him.

Having not finished higher than 10th place in any of the last 10 races, something no other driver currently in the top 22 in the championship standings can say, Johnson will be looking to pick up some much-needed momentum heading into the playoffs.

Sure, his track history at Bristol isn’t the greatest. Aside of his win there earlier this season, he had just one win in 30 races at the track. However, his track finishing average is good for 5th among active drivers, so that coupled with the fact that he is the most recent winner at the track gives him as good a chance as if not a better chance than any other driver to go to Victory Lane this weekend.
