NASCAR’s veteran drivers are disappearing too quickly

Listen: Veteran Drivers, Don’t Go

NASCAR fans had to deal with Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and then Carl Edwards leaving. Many fans may not care about Greg Biffle’s departure from NASCAR and the way he was forced out; however, I did! I still do. Now, I am being asked to deal with Matt Kenseth possibly leaving and I can’t. I don’t want to.

I was never really a super fan of Kasey Kahne, but as fans, we should be mad if he leaves after this season. And let’s not forget Danica Patrick, who seems to be on her way out. Whether you are a fan or hater of Kahne, if he is forced out of the Cup Series next year, it is not a good look for those of us who relish in the thought of seeing veteran drivers each week.

As for Danica, I am not a fan or a hater. If she goes, she goes. As we often say on our podcast, All Turns No Brakes, “We aren’t Danica haters, we just aren’t Danica fans.”

Too Much, Too Fast, Too Soon

Let’s break it down: We may not have Danica Patrick, Kasey Kahne or Matt Kenseth next season. NASCAR is already missing Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards. It has been over a year, so at this point, we have accepted that Jeff Gordon is gone–we know. Smoke is gone–we know.

But…wait! That guy, the 14-time defending Most Popular Driver Award winner, Dale Jr.–he is going too– so how are NASCAR fans supposed to be okay with this? Personally, I need a moment to digest this. It’s not fun–it’s too much, too fast, too soon!
