Lewis Hamilton will start on pole for the 11th time in 17 races in the 2017 Formula One season in the United States Grand Prix.
The United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas marks the 17th of 20 races on the 2017 Formula One season. Just three races remain following this weekend in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
Lewis Hamilton, who drives for Mercedes, has a 59-point lead in the drivers standings over Sebastian Vettel, who drives for Ferrari, with four races remaining this season. There are two possible scenarios by which Hamilton can lock up his fourth career Formula One championship in this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. Both involve him finishing in the top 2.
Well, he is in as good of a position as he can be in to do it, as he will start from pole position for the 11th time in 17 races so far this season. Vettel will join him on the front row as he looks to rally from down by 59 points to win his fifth career championship.

Hamilton’s lap at 93.108 seconds in Q3 around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile natural terrain road course is what gave him his 11th pole position of the season and the 72nd of his 11-year career, extending the all-time record.
Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas also has an outside chance at winning his first career Formula One championship in his first season driving for Mercedes, as he is 72 points behind Hamilton heading into the United States Grand Prix. He will start in 3rd place tomorrow.
