Why not give out awards a different way, a way in which awards are given to NASCAR Cup Series drivers based on the Thanksgiving food their season resembled?

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series concluded the 2017 season on Sunday at Homestead-Miami. This year’s champion is Martin Truex Jr., who went on to not just finish higher than his three combatants, but to win the race as well.

Well here we are again — 89 days until the Daytona 500. It is the dreaded offseason where the only NASCAR Cup Series racing we will see are the highlights. What a rollercoaster of emotions this season was. To cap it all off, Martin Truex Jr. is the new champion and I couldn’t think of a better person to have won the crown.

The most depressing part of the offseason is not the snow falling outside of my office window, but the fact that Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth and Danica Patrick are no longer full-time Cup Series drivers.

By and large, it will be weird to see different people in their cars next season. On the other hand, Matt Kenseth could end up with a ride in 2018 still. We will just have to wait and see how the free agent market works as the winter months play out.

Above all, it is time for some Thanksgiving-themed playoff awards to be handed out. This segment should have you thinking differently about your food on Thursday.
