NASCAR: 2018 Whelen Modified Tour schedule unveiled
By Alex Herbst
The 2018 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule has been unveiled, with a smattering of new tracks, date changes, and race expansions.
Perhaps one of the most underrated series sanctioned by NASCAR is the Whelen Modified Tour. NASCAR’s only open-wheeled division, these uniquely bodied vehicles race around short tracks all over the eastern seaboard. The 2018 schedule for the series has been unveiled, with a number of changes in its second unified season.
After unifying the Whelen Modified Tour and Southern Modified Tour for the 2017 season, the newly combined series prepares for their 2018 campaign. Seventeen races are on the schedule for the modifieds, with sixteen of those races counting toward the championship.
The season will kick off in South Carolina at Myrtle Beach Speedway in the middle of March, and carry through nine different tracks through October.

Only one track will drop from the schedule from 2017, with the invitational race at Charlotte Motor Speedway not returning in 2018. Otherwise, much of the schedule remains the same. The only major date change moves the race at Seekonk Speedway from August to early June, between the races at Stafford and Thompson.
The most exciting race on the calendar, however, may not even be the season finale. New Hampshire Motor Speedway‘s second race of the season in September will be the longest modified race in series history, running for 250 laps. This, in effect, replaces the lost Cup Series event at the track in the fall, with that race date moving to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
