Martin Truex Jr. is the early favorite to win the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season’s championship, and rightfully so given how dominant he was this past season and how he has doubled his career win total for two straight seasons now. However, it won’t be easy for him, as there are plenty of other drivers who will be hungry to win the title, with many having never won a Cup Series title before.
It is also hard for a driver to repeat by winning two championships in a row. The last time a driver won two or more titles in a row was back from the 2006 to the 2010 seasons, when seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson reeled off five titles in a row. Before that happened, no driver had won two or more titles in a row since four-time Jeff Gordon won the titles in the 1998 and 1999 seasons.
