Fame makes anybody an easy target on social media. Just ask four-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, who is constantly ridiculed for whatever reason.

I recently wrote an article on how important is to appreciate and respect the great drivers currently driving across all racing series, including Formula One, NASCAR and IndyCar.

Why? Because with fame comes being an easy target for hate, and many people, particularly through social media, will not pass up the chance to hate on great athletes, including race car drivers. Much of this hate is rooted in jealousy but disguised by using various excuses.

Some people choose to waste the amazing careers of these drivers simply by hoping they fail only to realize that not only have they been successful, but there may never be another driver in the sport’s history to pull off what they were able to pull off.

More from Formula One

If anyone knows this, it’s four-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, who has been hated for pretty much everything he has done (and even some things he hasn’t done) over the course of his 11-year Formula One career during which he has racked up a record 72 poles and 62 victories, which is good for second on the all-time wins list.

He has been hated for his constant use of social media, particularly his Instagram images, and his fashion choices. He was hated for a controversial image of a man people thought was him pouring an alcoholic beverage into a car — and the man wasn’t even him!! And most recently, he was hated for joking around with his four-year-old nephew by saying that “boys don’t wear princess dresses”. The list could go on and on, which proves that with fame comes being an easy target, which in turn proves that lots of hate that famous athletes get is rooted in jealousy.

Next: Who is the greatest Formula One driver of all-time?

With fame comes being an easy target of hate, particularly from social media trolls. That is something that certain race car drivers are sadly no stranger too, most notably four-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who is constantly dealing with hatred from people over what doesn’t actually amount to much.
