RPM have had the reputation of being a penny-pinching team that strives for mediocrity, but by judging Richard Petty’s recent interviews, it could be speculated that the inclusion of Bubba Wallace Jr. and a new partnership with Richard Childress Racing and Chevrolet could serve as a major upswing in competitiveness and overall equipment.
Maybe Petty realizes his time for resurgence is now. Back in the golden age of NASCAR, this team used to be the greatest in all of motorsports, but they have been an afterthought for the past decades.
If we can assume that RPM are stepping their game up, we can look at our small sample size of Wallace Jr.’s Cup Series race and see that there is potential for a competitive 2018 season.

I think we will see the signs of RPM finally starting their comeback with a few bumps along the way with a new manufacturer and rookie driver, but I expect Darrell Wallace Jr. to compete for one of the last few playoff spots in 2018 and maybe even steal a win. Either way, expect the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season to be the year we finally see RPM start off on the right track.
