Conclusion

With all that information on the table, it’s pretty easy to say that a victory at the Daytona 500 doesn’t seem too likely for Danica Patrick in her last NASCAR race.

Daytona is a track known for miracles, though. You can throw any stat at a wall and see what sticks, but at the end of the day, Daytona doesn’t adhere to stats. This is a track that can take out 50% of the entire race field in a single lap.

More from Danica Patrick

Every car that pulls onto the starting grid on February 18th has a chance to win the Daytona 500. It’s just that kind of race.

But the stars don’t seem to be aligning for Patrick to have a storybook finish to her NASCAR career.

That’s okay, though — maybe not in her head. But even if her final race doesn’t end up like she and her fans hope, I think it’s important to remember that her legacy will be more about what she has done for the sport as opposed to what she’s done statistically on the track.

She has brought sponsors, fans, money, and more importantly inspiration for female drivers who wish to compete in NASCAR.

Danica Patrick has brought a positive change to NASCAR and while the word gimmick is tossed around, and maybe it’s fair, it doesn’t accurately sum up her place in the sport.

Danica Patrick’s presence will be missed and I hope that her final Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500 races are everything that she hopes for.
