NASCAR: Corey Lajoie to drive part-time for TriStar Motorsports in 2018
By Asher Fair
TriStar Motorsports confirmed that Corey Lajoie will be one of their two part-time drivers for the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Corey Lajoie, 26, is set to drive the #72 Chevrolet for TriStar Motorsports in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season. He is set to drive the car as a part-time driver as opposed to a full-time driver. However, he is still set to drive in the majority of the season’s races.
Lajoie began driving in the Cup Series for Randy Humphrey Racing in two races in the 2014 season. He went on to drive for BK Racing for 32 races in the 2017 season. However, he has never been eligible to earn points in the Cup Series.
In the 2018 season, he is set to drive in 25 of the 36 races in the #72 TriStar Motorsports Chevrolet. The team’s other part-time driver of the car is 26-year-old Cole Whitt, who drove the car full-time last season. He requested a limited schedule and is only set to drive in 11 races for the team this season.
Here is what Lajoie had to say about getting this opportunity, according to NASCAR.
"“It’s such a great opportunity to work with TriStar Motorsports. I hope to use the learning experiences from my 2017 Rookie Season and work hard for some great finishes this year. It’s my goal to continue building a successful team with Bryan, while honoring the legacy his dad, Mark left behind.”"

In 34 career Cup Series races spanning two seasons, Lajoie has never won a race, finished in the top 5 in a race or finished in the top 10 in a race. He has just one career top 20 finish in those 34 races, with that lone top 20 finish being his career-high finish of 11th place at Daytona in the 2017 season.
Last season, he finished 27 of the 32 races he drove in. Aside of his 11th place finish at Daytona, he finished three other races in the top 25. He finished in 24th in the Daytona 500, 24th at Bristol and 25th at Pocono.
Because of the fact that he has never been eligible to score points, Lajoie does not have a career-high finish in the championship standings in the Cup Series.
