8. Bobby Allison

  • Races: 55
  • Wins: 6
  • Top 5 finishes: 17
  • Top 10 finishes: 22
  • Average finish: 16.11

Bobby Allison is tied for 5th in all-time wins at Daytona with six and three of those came in Daytona 500 races. He is a legend at more than just Daytona, as he has found Victory Lane in 84 races and became a NASCAR champion in 1983.

I really felt like Allison could’ve been in the top 5 on this list. However, he had DNF’s at Daytona, which is the fourth highest total of all-time. This speaks to why his average finish was lower than his statistics would have you believe.

That being said, I think my ranking of Allison and some of the names above him would be considered controversial, so take it as you will.

7. Jeff Gordon

  • Races: 46
  • Wins: 6
  • Top 5 finishes: 13
  • Top 10 finishes: 21
  • Average finish: 16.33

Three-time Daytona 500 champion Jeff Gordon has left behind a legacy at Daytona that is hard to match in the modern era. Gordon was almost always the favorite when he went to Daytona. If it wasn’t him, it was probably Dale Earnhardt Jr. who was favored.

Being tied for 5th all-time in wins at Daytona with six, Gordon only being ranked 7th on this list is tough, much like it was with Allison at 8th. This is where my list gets tough because all of these drivers from here on out could probably be interchangeable.

That being said, I believe the top six drivers on this list outperformed Gordon throughout their careers and while Gordon could be argued as one of the all-time greats at Daytona, I personally think he’s in the right spot here.
