Chase Elliott drove to Victory Lane in the second of two NASCAR Cup Series Can-Am Duel races at Daytona to set the starting lineup for the Daytona 500.

The 60th annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida is set to take place this Sunday, February 18th with Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman on the pole alongside Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin to open up the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season.

In the second of two Can-Am Duel races, which have determined the 3rd through 40th positions in the starting lineup for Sunday’s Daytona 500, it was Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott winning for the second year in a row in his #9 Chevrolet.

Elliott was one of four drivers to lead the race, which featured a total of six lead changes, at some point. He led 34 of the race’s 60 laps. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick led seven laps of the race while Denny Hamlin led 18 laps and BK Racing’s Gray Gaulding led the other lap.

The 60-lap race around the 2.5-mile tri-oval featured just one caution flag period. The first and only caution flag of the race came out on lap 12 when Joe Gibbs Raging’s Erik Jones spun out, which caused Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson and Go Fas Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto to make contact with the wall and sustain damage.

Jones went on to recover and finish the race in 4th place, but Larson and DiBenedetto were unable to continue in the race after this wreck. The only other driver who failed to finished the race was MBM Motorsports’ Mark Thompson, who ended up going to the garage on lap 33.
