Formula E: Standings after Mexico City ePrix – Vergne, Techeeta lead
By Asher Fair
Five of the 12 races on the 2017-2018 Formula E season schedule are in the book. Which drivers and teams are where in their respective championship standings?
The 2018 Mexico City ePrix at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, Mexico was the fifth race of 12 on the 2017-2018 Formula E schedule.
This race, which was contested around the 18-turn, 1.30-mile track, was won by Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Daniel Abt after 47 laps of action.
Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne, who led the drivers standings coming into the race, finished in 5th place for his fifth top 5 finish in as many races so far this season.

While Vergne did not win the race like he did the Santiago ePrix, the previous race in the series that was contested four weeks ago, he maintained his lead in the standings as a result of his solid finish and as a result of the fact that the 2nd and 3rd place drivers in the standings, Felix Rosenqvist and Sam Bird, both had forgettable races.
While Vergne’s teammate Andre Lotterer failed to score points with a 13th finish in the race, Techeetah were actually able to take the lead in the teams standings over Mahindra. They trailed them by one point coming into the race, but because of the fact that Mahindra saw both of their driver forced to retire in the race, Techeetah shot to the top of the standings thanks on the back of yet another strong finish by Vergne.
