Formula E: Standings after 2018 CBMM Niobium Rome ePrix
By Asher Fair
The Rome ePrix, which was the seventh of 12 races in the 2017-2018 Formula E season, is in the books. How do the standings look?
The 2018 CBMM Niobium Rome ePrix at the 21-turn, 2.86-kilometer (1.77-mile) Circuito cittadino dell’EUR in Rome, Italy is in the books after Sam Bird took the checkered flag in from of the rest of the field in his #2 Spark-Citroen machine for DS Virgin Racing in the seventh of 12 races in the 2017-2018 Formula E season.
As a result of Bird’s win, which was his second of the 2017-2018 season, he passed Mahindra Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist for 2nd place in the driver standings. Rosenqvist was forced to retire for the second time in the last three races and ended up finishing back in 18th place.
The race’s 2nd place finisher was Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas di Grassi, who has now finished in 2nd place in back to back races following an extremely disappointing five-race start to the 2017-2018 Formula E season during which he finished higher than 14th place just once.

Di Grassi’s second consecutive 2nd place result in a Formula E race catapulted him up to 8th place in the driver standings, and he is now within striking distance of the top 4. However, with just five races to go in the season, the odds of the 2016-2017 Formula E champion repeating as champion are slim to none.
With a 5th place finish in the Rome ePrix, Jean-Eric Vergne’s lead in the driver standings shrunk to 18 points over Bird and grew to 37 points over Rosenqvist. He previously led those two drivers by 33 and 30 points, respectively.
Here are the updated driver and team standings following the 2018 CBMM Niobium Rome ePrix at Circuito cittadino dell’EUR.
