Lando Norris will more than likely be the replacement for two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso at McLaren, and he will likely replace him in the 2019 season.

Recent reports suggest that two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso’s time driving full-time in Formula 1 for McLaren is coming to an end, and they have suggested that that is set to be the case following the conclusion of the 2018 season, his 17th season in the sport and his fifth as a driver for McLaren over the course of two stints driving for the team.

As a result, there has been talk about which driver could possibly replace Alonso, likely alongside Stoffel Vandoorne, the other McLaren driver who would appear to be slated to return to the team for the third season in 2019 barring an unexpected signing of another driver.

The likely replacement for Alonso at this point is really the only true replacement candidate for him, and that is 18-year-old Lando Norris. Norris, who hails from Glastonbury, United Kingdom, was a test driver for McLaren last season, and he is the current championship leader in the FIA Formula 2 Championship as a full-time driver for Carlin Motorsport.

In 2014, Norris competed in the Ginetta Junior Championship. In 2015, he competed in the MSA Formula Championship, the ADAC Formula 4 Championship, the Italian Formula 4 Championship, and the BRDC Formula 4 Autumn Trophy.

In 2016, Norris competed in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC, the Toyota Racing Series, the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, and the FIA European Formula 3 Championship. He competed in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2017 as well in addition to two races in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, where he is currently driving as a full-time driver, as referenced two paragraphs above.

Norris, who was named Autosport National Driver of the Year in 2017, won the MSA Formula Championship in the 2015 season, and he won the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship, the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Championship, and the Toyota Racing Series championship in the 2016 season. He also won the FIA Formula 3 Championship last season and could very well be on his way to winning this season’s FIA Formula 2 Championship.
