Formula E: 2018 Qatar Airways Paris ePrix results – Jean-Eric Vergne dominates
By Asher Fair
Jean-Eric Vergne dominated the 2018 Paris ePrix, the eighth race of the 2017-2018 Formula E season, en route to his third victory of the season.
Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne started the 2018 Paris ePrix, the eighth race of the 2017-2018 Formula E season and the 28-year-old Parisian’s home race, from the pole position and with the lead in the championship standings.
Vergne relinquished the lead of the race during pit stops only, and his dominant showing throughout the 49-lap race around the 14-turn, 1.20-mile (1.93-kilometer) Circuit des Invalides in Paris, France allowed him to not only maintain his lead in the championship standings but to add to it.
DS Virginia Racing’s Sam Bird still sits in second in the standings after finishing in third place in the 2018 Paris ePrix, and the gap that he has to make up if he wants to catch Vergne has grown after Bird shrunk it down after winning the 2018 Rome ePrix two weeks ago.

Vergne, meanwhile, became the first driver to win three races so far this season, and he has still not yet finishes a race outside of the top five so far this season. With just four races to go before the champion is officially crowned, no driver is in a position to win the title in the fourth annual Formula E season than he is.
Vergne’s held off Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas di Grassi, the defending Formula E champion whose hot streak continued following a disastrous start to the season, to take the win by 4.882 seconds. Bird, Venturi’s Maro Engel and Renault e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi rounded out the top five.
