NASCAR: 2018 JEGS 200 at Dover results – Johnny Sauter wins
In four NASCAR Truck Series races this season, there had been four different winners. Would the JEGS 200 produce the fifth different winner?
Noah Gragson led the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series field to the green flag on Friday evening at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware for the JEGS 200. Gragson was looking for his first win of the season to make him the fifth different winner in 2018.
Starting along side Gragson was Johnny Sauter. Both drivers will also be driving in tomorrow’s Xfinity series race, with Sauter replacing Spencer Gallagher, who was suspended earlier in the week for violating NASCAR’s substance abuse policy.
The race 200 went green, but not for very long. Stewart Friesen and Brett Moffitt collided and brought out the first caution flag on lap one. Gragson led the field back to green flag on lap seven, and he pulled away until the second caution of the race came out on lap 15.
This time, Myatt Synider clipped the apron and collided with Austin Hill to bring out the caution flag. On lap 21, the race went back to green, with Gragson still leading. He pulled away from the field and led all 45 laps in stage one to earn his third stage victory of the 2018 season.
All of the drivers on the lead lap came down pit road at the end of stage one. Since Parker Kligerman took fuel only, he won the race off pit road. Noah Gragson’s pit crew struggled and he fell back to eighth place as a result of it.

Stage two began on lap 54 with Kligerman in front. Even though he only took fuel, he held the lead several laps into stage two before he was passed by Johnny Sauter. Once Sauter passed Kligerman, he began to check out from the field. Luckily for Sauter, no cautions came out and he went on cruise control and won stage two.
Sauter led the field onto pit road, and his pit crew had a great stop to get him back out in the lead. With only 102 laps remaining, Sauter led the field to the green flag to start the final stage. While Sauter checked out on most of the field, Jessie Little in his family-owned truck stayed within one second of him. Little took advantage of a lapped car holding up Sauter and passed him for the lead. Unfortunately for Little, his lead lasted only a lap, but it was a great moment for his small team.
With 44 laps remaining in the race, Stewart Friesen blew a right front tire and his day was over. Once again, Sauter led his competitors to pit road. This time, David Gilliland took two tires and got the race lead off pit road. Sauter restarted second, but how long would that last? Actually, it didn’t last long at all. Gilliland’s crew had an uncontrolled tire penalty, which resulted in him dropping to the rear of the pack. This allowed Sauter to get the lead once again.
Sauter was 20 laps away from victory before Jordan Anderson and Justin Fontaine spun in front of him. Luckily for Sauter, he did not sustain any damage and continued to lead. Sauter led the field back to green with 13 laps to go. He battled Noah Gragson for a lap, but Gragson passed him with 11 laps left, although Sauter refused to let him get away.
With five laps left, Sauter got to the outside of Gragson, but he made contact with the wall. Still refusing to give up with three laps to go, Sauter again went to the outside of Gragson. Both drivers battled side-by-side. Gragson then got into the door of Sauter and got loose. This sent Gragson’s car into the wall and ended his race.
The race 200 went into overtime with Sauter still leading and Matt Crafton in second place. Crafton and Sauter battled through turn one side-by-side until Sauter pulled away one final time. He went on to win his second race of the 2018 season, giving him 19 career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victories.
