Austin Dillon’s #3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team have been issued an L1-level penalty following the AAA 400 Drive for Autism, the 11th race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware this past Sunday.
The team were found to have committed a splitter violation. They were found to have violated Section 20.4.3a&.d, which deals with the splitter not meeting rule specifications.
As a result of this penalty, Dillon’s crew chief Justin Alexander was fined $25,000, and his car chief Greg Ebert was suspended for the next Cup Series points race, which is set to take place this weekend at Dover.

Dillon, who finished in 26th place in the AAA 400 Drive for Autism and only scored 11 points in the race as a result of it, was not issued a points penalty as a result of this violation. His team were not docked any owner points as a result of it either.
In fact, Dillon actually moved up in the championship standings from 19th to 18th place as a result of the fact that the #19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team of Daniel Suarez were issued an L1-level penalty after the AAA 400 Drive for Autism, and their penalty carried both a 20-point driver points penalty and a 20-point owner points penalty, unlike Dillon’s.
Suarez dropped from 17th to 20th place in the standings as a result of this penalty, thus moving Dillon up from 19th to 18th. However, this does not really matter for Dillon because of the fact that he is already locked into the 2018 Cup Series playoffs thanks to the fact that he won the Daytona 500 to open up the season.
