Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo, 28, drives full-time for Aston Martin Red Bull Racing in Formula 1, and he has done since his fourth season in the sport back in 2014. He is widely considered the best active driver not driving for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport or Scuderia Ferrari. In fact, there is speculation that he will drive for one of those two teams in the 2019 season and beyond.

While Ricciardo has just six career wins in his Formula 1 career and he is already in his eighth season, seventh full-time season and fifth season driving for Red Bull Racing, he has showcased tons of talent.

More from Formula One

Sebastian Vettel, who now drives for Ferrari, won four consecutive championships from the 2010 season to the 2013 season when he drove for Red Bull Racing. In the 2014 season when the V6 turbo hybrid era began is when Ricciardo joined Vettel at Red Bull Racing, Ricciardo actually soundly outperformed the four-time reigning champion.

Ricciardo won three races that season and finished in third place in the championship standings, while Vettel did not win a single race and finished in fifth.

Ricciardo should definitely consider attempting the Indy 500, especially if he does not end up getting a ride with Mercedes or Ferrari next season. In fact, if he stays with Red Bull Racing and they do not do enough to give him a car that will allow him to compete for a championship, Ricciardo attempting the race next year should be something that is considered, although it is unlikely.

After Alonso’s impressive performance in the Indy 500 last year, it would stand to reason that an uber-talented driver such as Ricciardo could perform at a high level in the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” as well. He should certainly try it at some point.
