NASCAR: 2018 Coca-Cola 600 Winner Spotlight – Kyle Busch dominates
By Mark Kristl
Kyle Busch won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. With his victory, Busch now has won at every NASCAR Cup Series track at which he has started a race.
Kyle Busch dominated the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday. For Busch, the win was his 47th career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory, which is good for 15th most all-time.
The 2015 Cup Series champion is already the winningest driver in the Xfinity Series with 91 wins, which is 42 wins higher than Mark Martin in second place with 49 victories. In the Truck Series, he is one victory shy of tying Ron Hornaday Jr. for most wins with 51.
With his Coca-Cola 600 victory, Busch has now won at every Cup Series track at which he has started a race. This season presents him another opportunity to maintain that historic feat. On September 30, the Cup Series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, drivers will race on the roval, a first for the Cup Series. If Busch wins that race, he will remain the only driver in history to win at every track at which he has raced.

Kyle Busch already secured his playoff berth with three victories before his win at Charlotte. Impressively, he won three straight races at Texas Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway. To begin the Memorial Day weekend slate, Busch won the pole. In addition to racing 600 miles on Sunday, he also raced on Saturday in the Xfinity Series race. He led the most laps and won both stages, but his late spin took away his shot for a victory. Nevertheless, he rebounded to finish eighth. With a fast Cup Series car, a top 10 finish in the Xfinity Series race and a guaranteed playoff berth, Busch oozed with confidence.
Busch dominated the whole Coca-Cola 600, leading 377 of its 400 laps. The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race on the Cup Series schedule, so NASCAR divided it into four stages. Each stage was 100 laps.
This did not deter Busch. He won the first three stages and the race itself, and in doing so, he captured all eight playoff points that were up for grabs in the event. With his victory, Busch is still the Cup Series points leader. He now has the most playoff points and the second highest win total behind Kevin Harvick so far this season as well. As a normally aggressive driver, Busch’s success this season enables him to go for broke for the remainder of the Cup Series regular season.

Kyle Busch looks to continue his dominant 2018 season at Pocono Raceway. Last year, he won the pole, won a stage, and led the most laps. However, on the final restart, he was unable to hold off Ryan Blaney, who went on to win. This year, Busch looks to stay in front all the way to the checkered flag. Viewers can watch Busch and the Cup Series drivers battle at the Pocono 400 on June 3. It will air on Fox Sports 1 at 2:00 p.m. ET on that date.
