Ryan Blaney took the pole position for the 14th race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Pocono 400 at Pocono Raceway.

Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney took the pole position for the Pocono 400, which is the 14th race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, at Pocono Raceway.

Blaney is the defending winner of the race, as he won his first career Cup Series race at the track last season after starting in fourth place and leading the final 10 of its 160 laps. He has not won a race since he won at Pocono Raceway in June of 2017.

Blaney recorded a lap at 50.877 seconds (176.897 miles per hour) in his #12 Ford around the three-turn, 2.5-mile triangle in Long Pond, Pennsylvania to claim his fourth career NASCAR Cup Series pole and second pole of the season, as he also started from the pole position at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in early March.

The 24-year-old is set to start the race alongside Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick in second place in his #4 Ford. Harvick has not yet won a race at Pocono Raceway in his Cup Series career, but with five victories in 13 races so far this season, he should definitely have a great chance to do so this weekend, especially considering the fact that he qualified on the outside of the front row.

Jamie McMurray was the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver in his #1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet. He qualified in third place for the race. Defending Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. was the highest qualifying Toyota driver in his #78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota. He qualified in fourth and is set to start alongside McMurray.

Five Ford drivers qualified in the top nine, three Toyota drivers qualified in the top 10 and eight Chevrolet drivers qualified in the top 16 for the race, which is set to take place on Sunday, June 3.
