Lucas di Grassi was victorious for the first time in the 2017-2018 Formula E season by winning the Julius Baer Zürich ePrix.
After failing to finish higher than ninth place in each of the first five races of the 2017-2018 Formula E season and finishing in second in the next four, reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi, who drives for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, finally secured his first victory of the season.
After taking the lead slightly before the halfway point of the 2018 Julius Baer Zürich ePrix at the 11-turn, 1.529-mile (2.460-kilometer) Zürich Street Circuit in Zürich, Switzerland, di Grassi never looked back and held on for the victory.
More than half of the laps of the 39-lap race were led by di Grassi, who took the victory by finishing 7.542 seconds ahead of DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird in second place. The win was di Grassi’s first since he won the first race of the Montreal ePrix last season, and it was the seventh of his Formula E career.

The race featured only one lead change among two drivers. This lead change took place slightly before the race’s halfway mark when di Grassi got around race polesitter Mitch Evans, who drives for Panasonic Jaguar Racing. Evans ended up finishing in seventh place.
The championship battle, which is now officially down to just Bird and Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne, intensified. Vergne came in with a 40-point lead in the possibility of securing the 2017-2018 Formula E championship, but Bird’s second place finish coupled with Vergne’s 10th place finish nearly halved the gap between the two drivers to 23 points.
