Formula 1: Hockenheimring not returning to the schedule in 2019
By Asher Fair
The Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg will not host a Formula 1 race in the 2019 season after returning to the schedule this year.
The Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg in Am Motodrom, Hockenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany will not return to the Formula 1 schedule in the 2019 season after returning to the schedule this season.
Since the 2006 season, the 17-turn, 2.842-mile (4.574-kilometer) Hockenheimring road course has hosted Formula 1 races only in even years, so it was not surprising to see the track return to the schedule this season.
It is perhaps even less surprising to see the track not returning to the schedule next season. The last time the Hockenheimring hosted a race in an odd season was when it hosted the 2005 German Grand Prix, a race won by Fernando Alonso, who was driving for Renault at the time.

That race featured polesitter Kimi Raikkonen, who was driving for McLaren at the time, retire with hydraulics issues after leading the first 35 laps of the 67-lap race. Finishing in second place behind Alonso was Raikkonen’s teammate, Juan Pablo Montoya. Montoya started the race in last (20th).
This year’s race at the Hockenheimring, the German Grand Prix, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 22. It is set to be broadcast live on ESPN2 starting at 9:10 a.m. ET. The year 2018 is the 21st consecutive even year during which the track has hosted a Formula 1 race.
Since hosting its first Formula 1 race in the 1970 season, the Hockenheimring has hosted a total of 35 Formula 1 races, and the only even years during which it did not host a Formula 1 race were 1972, 1974 and 1976.
The 2019 Formula 1 schedule has not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to be confirmed within the next few days. It is expected to include 21 races like this season’s schedule, as while the race at the Hockenheimring will be dropped, the Miami Grand Prix is set to be added to the schedule as a second race in the United States.
However, if that race falls through, there will only be 20 races, as there is no replacement race in the works for it if it does end up falling through.
