Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, Mercedes

. No. 44. Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, Mercedes. LEWIS HAMILTON. #44

Four-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton just signed a two-year contract to remain with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport through at least the 2020 Formula 1 season, making him the third driver to sign a contract that extends beyond the conclusion of the 2018 season.

If Hamilton can win this season’s driver championship, he will have a chance to tie Michael Schumacher’s all-time Formula 1 championship record of seven by the 2020 season before his next contract expires. Will he pull it off? Regardless, will he still drive for Mercedes after the 2020 season ends?

More from Formula One

Valtteri Bottas just signed a one-year contract to remain with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport through at least the 2019 Formula 1 season, making him the fourth driver to sign a contract that extends beyond the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Bottas is set to drive for the team for a third season next year despite the fact that he has not yet won a race in 10 attempts so far this season as well as the fact that he has just three victories since he started driving for the team last year. However, he is a great teammate to Lewis Hamilton, and rather than risk a fierce teammate rivalry such as the one between Hamilton and Nico Rosberg from the 2014 season through the 2016 season by signing a driver such as Daniel Ricciardo, Mercedes made what should turn out to be a smart decision to re-sign Bottas, who is very much a solid driver himself.
