The mid-pack

B. It seems that Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport driver Valtteri Bottas had a chance to take the win after qualifying in second place behind teammate Lewis Hamilton. He managed to challenge him briefly during the first lap, but Hamilton pulled away. He spent the rest of the race backing up both Ferrari drivers. In fact, he made contact with the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel and the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo while defending in the closing laps of the race. Haas driver Kevin Magnussen had a rough qualifying session, as he was unable to get a final clean lap, which resulted in a starting position of ninth place for him. He battled hard in the mid-pack and claimed a seventh place finish and six more points in his impressive season with the growing American squad.

FERNANDO ALONSO. B. McLaren driver Fernando Alonso qualified outside the points in 11th place, but he managed to improve during the race up into eighth, scoring four more points for the scrambling McLaren team. ESTEBAN OCON. C+. Sahara Force India driver Esteban Ocon was one of the drivers who walked away from qualifying with disappointment after failing to find speed in the rain and only managing a 17th place starting position. SERGIO PEREZ. C+. Sahara Force India driver Sergio Perez matched the disappointment of teammate Esteban Ocon in qualifying by only being able to manage a starting position of 18th place.
